Another banger. This producer Harry Fraud is fucking killing shit right now. Only person touching him is Clams Casino. Download Here (click on disk icon): http://hiphopvip.com/wiz-khalifa-ft-50-cent-telescope/

Wild Nothing

A nice summer tune from Wild Nothing. No download available yet.

Schoolboy Q and Danny Brown

Danny Brown has really grown on me as of late. I once thought his voice, flow, and style, were a little too outlandish for my taste but somehow I've grown to love him. Alchemist has a new album coming out middle of July and this is the first cut released off of it. If only it were longer.......

Frank Ocean is back

Frank Ocean just dropped this song off the DefJam website so it's definitely an official song (there have been some bootleg singles and such as of recent). The song starts off a little funky (like bad smelling funky), but after a beat change following the first verse, the song picks up. It's long as fuck, but it's good to see Frank Ocean continuing to experiment and expand his sound without going completely off the map. Stoked for when his official CD finally drops.

KickDrums

The Kickdrums have been around for a second. Frankly, I'm surprised they haven't blown up yet. It took a few mixtapes to get their act together but they've put together a really solid mixtape. All types of genres, don't let the first few songs deter you.

In A Dream

Not a huge Hodgy Beats/Odd Future fan but this song's sample kills it

The Full Retard

El-P is a trip. White dude from Brooklyn, been around the underground scene for a long time. El-Producto was the founder of the Def Jux (Definitive Juxtaposition) record label which has spawned artists like Aesop Rock, Del, MURS, RJD2, etc etc etc. Needless to say, he's been a behind the scenes driving force for the progression of alternative hip-hop. Much of his music is dark, industrial, and often difficult to approach, which is to say that much of it isn't particularly pleasant upon first listen. He goes beyond simple hip-hop and makes his music more of an artistic expression with no boundaries. His album I'll Sleep When You're Dead was dropped when I was a junior in college and I remember playing it for a lot of people and most of them didn't 'get' it. His new cut The Full Retard is one of the more approachable songs he's dropped, while still maintaining his illusionary, macabre style for which he's known. Let's see if you get it or not. Throwing in an old cut too to show his knack for bending genres and expectations.

Triscuits

A remix-ish version of Keith Sweat's Twisted named after my favorite snack cracker? Ummmm no way can this not be dope. (old version stopped working, this one is working again.)

YG

I've always thought that YG was a pretty shitty rapper, and I still do. That's not to say that he doesn't make good songs though. Take, for example, his first single Toot It and Boot It (surely you've heard it). Catchy beat, catchier chorus, and awful fucking raps. But the same thing that initially turned me off about YG is why I now consider him to be special: his songs present themselves in a fun, carefree way that makes the listener give much less of a shit what the verses consist of. I almost overlooked this mixtape as I had pretty much written him off.  This, however, has ended up being one of my favorite mixtapes of the year thus far.  More Ratchet music for chore azz. Seriously don't sleep on this.

Stay ratchet.

Problem

So I'm back, gonna seriously try to stay on it this time.  I figure it'll be easier if I break each song/mixtape/artist into it's own post.  That way I'll be more likely to update them regularly and you won't have retardedly long posts to read and everybody's fucking happy.

So let's start with Problem.  Dude is out of LA and is, in my humble opinion, hard as fuck, or at least his music is.  Super heavy bass (don't listen to this on laptop speakers) with slurred swagger raps, a little chopping/a little bit of south added to the typical LA sound.  Dudes are calling it Ratchet music, along with Tyga, YG, and the likes.  I digs.

Big Things Poppin

I just had the longest blog entry ever written with all types of fresh shit and reviews but fucking Safari closed and deleted it all. So now you'll get the songs with no writing cuz I'm pissed, consider yourselves lucky. If it wasn't for Brandon Ghio I probably never would've done it.

New, more formal blog coming soon. But it'll still be sweet and I'll still be a dick don't worry.

New Kanye song Mercy dropped today, available to listen on his website and buy on itunes.

Big K.R.I.T.

Big Krit is the realest and most talented rapper out of the South right now in my opinion. He produces a bunch of his own shit, as well as for some other artists. His song The Vent from Return of 4eva had the deepest lyrics in any hip hop song last year, and some of my favorite ever. If you haven't checked that you definitely should. Homeboy has an official album coming soon and I hope it's the same as his mixtapes, ain't nobody else out there like K.R.I.T.

A Dose of Dopeness

Kid Cudi randomly decided to drop an old track from 2008 that was somehow never released. Compared to the Cudi songs I've heard in the past ~2 years, this shit is super dope. Cudi has started to go off the deep end with his side project WZRD, which has produced some of the shittier rock music I've heard in a while. Please Cudi, start taking drugs and making rap again.

And another rando banger, thanks to the homie Jeff Loren for this one.

That dude Kendrick Lamar

If you listen to hip hop and haven't heard about Kendrick Lamar yet, then, uhhhh, you don't fucking listen to hip hop. He's Dre's new protege and has been in some of the Detox sessions (probably ghostwriting a fair amount since Dre writes 0% of his own rhymes). Now before you go getting all stoked, remember that Dre's Aftermath proteges have historically ended up fizzling away (Stat Quo, Hittman, even Rakim's legendary ass). I think Kendrick Lamar is pretty dope, if not a tiny bit overrated, but he seems to be getting better and more creative with every verse I hear. This song is weird as fuck though, and if you haven't heard Kendrick Lamar before I'd suggest listening to ADHD or some shit first.

Happy Schmalentines Day

Shlohmo is a producer/musician out of LA with a completely different style of sound than most other beatmakers I've heard lately. Lots of bloops and blops, with non-traditional, sometimes even frustrating rhythms. He takes my favorite song off of Take Care and gives it a nice retouching.

A little Rusko/Cypress Hill collabo. If I remember correctly, I think they are making an entire mixtape/album together which should be pretty legit. Here's their first single together.

And finally, something a little more mellow. Mansions on the Moon are an incredibly talented group also out of LA. Pharrell has said that they're his favorite band. Their first mixtape was an awesome collaboration of sounds if you haven't heard it. They're first full EP (fo free!) dropped today on iTunes but I haven't gotten a chance to listen yet. In the meantime, enjoy their remix of Zee Avi's Concrete Wall.

Download available on iTunes

And another remix of the same song by RAC, who is also incredibly talented remixer.

Download also available from same album on iTunes.

Return of the Mac

I didn't even realize how long it had been since my last blog update until I saw that I last wrote about Mac Miller, and I'm pretty much over him at this point. Seeing him live and having a crowd a la Mickey Mouse club kinda turned me off. Regardless, this first song still has homeboy in it haha. Hypocritical, yes, but he is overshadowed by Dom and Slim Thuggaaa.

Next up is a track my Action Bronson and the dude Riff Raff. In case you don't remember, he's the super clownish white dude from this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOfClVBdXUI If you haven't seen it before then you probably should.
All of Riff Raff's songs I've heard thus far have been kind of a joke, and I've long admired Action Bronson's flow but not many of his actual songs have appealed to me. This odd couple works on this track though, thanks in large part to the homie Harry Fraud's production. In fact, out of all three of them, he's probably the one to keep an eye on the most.

No Download link available for that one yet.

Chevy Woods is Wiz Khalifa's right hand man. He's been appearing on his shit since back when he was known as Kev Da Hustla. I've always thought he was above average, but not by much. This song is brand new though and it's pretty ill.

Aright that's it for now. I promise I'll try to stay up on this shit better. Especially for you Big Ben.

Loads out.
